What are Steriones?

Infections are a global problem that has not been effectively improved, in spite of the availability of antimicrobial methods of treatment. Cautious estimates from the European Science Foundation (ESF) in September 2005 assume a level of 1.75 million hospital-acquired infections in Europe with a lethality of 175,000 patients a year.

Steriones are nano-structured molecules that destroy bacteria and virus by means of their structure and reactivity.
Steriones can be divided into active and passive ones. Depending on the principal constituent, AG-Sterione, BE-Sterione and others are provided. Furthermore, the molecules are distinguished according to the carrier materials.

The permanently formed ions of the Sterione have a destructive effect on bacteria but are harmless for human beings. Steriones are used as additives in varnishes, plastic compounds and other materials.
The antimicrobial effect of the additive is preserved in the new material compound and the surface of the product thus attains sustainable antimicrobial properties. The intensity of the effect is weaker or more intensive, depending on the dosage of the additive. The effect lasts, however, for many years.

Background & Application

SteriOne GmbH & Co KG develops and distributes extremely effective and industrially applicable antimicrobial additives.

SteriOne is the product of successful cooperation between outstanding scientists at German universities with a management team from Berlin. The enterprise draws on 40 international patent registrations and 15 years of development work.

In this way, a family of highly effective antimicrobial additives was created – the Steriones. Now these are available to free almost any object from bacteria, fungi and other virus and to prevent recolonisation. We are able to advise you on this and provide you with the opportunity to examine several different concentrations on your prefabricated part and to determine the ideal dosage by means of laboratory testing. We manufacture the Masterbatches as cylinders, pellets or as micro-granulate. The usual quantity added is between 2% - 4 % . Furthermore we are able to manufacture so-called combi-batches, in which other agents e.g. pigments for colouration, can be added to the mixture in addition to the active ingredient.
